Unfortunately, I don't even roughly understand what this is all about, and the demos either don't work, show just a monochrome screen, or show a variant of the DeepaMehta display where it is unclear what the visitor is allowed and supposed to do.

  • thanks for your input! this will help me to clarify the description for others. yes, the social actions demo seems not to run in firefox (in internet explorer and opera it should, though.) otherwise please give the penguin scenario a try, this should work fine. the deepamehta topic map is just for browsing the current status of the topic map in text and image, for users who haven't seen a deepamehta view yet and i initially imported the map into deepamehta.de to open up for user contributions, i should make this clearer on the demo page. i also think this isn't a real demo, we have already much better demos which could be served on the deepamehta.de server, to introduce deepamehta to new users --Malte 18-Jan-2009 16:02 GMT
    • Of the three clickable items on http://deepamehta.de/wiki/file/socialmapdemo.html , the "Open Map" is the only one that works for me, but it is a DeepaMehta map limited in some unknown way, e. g., the right-click on the backdrop canvas yields an error tweet "Menu for view "Info Overview" (t-74228) not avaliable (parameter missing in statement (see DeepaMehta log for details))", and the overarching problem with the public/ private architechture in DM is that you never really know what action spoils what view for others.
      • (For instance, I may have caused a mess by invoking reveal all, which, BTW, would need som autotopology patterns since the current random arrangement is no longer satisfactory with more than the incremental 7 items proposed in the feature request "reveal more".)
    • The other (peng/app.swf) does start but shows only a black screen or a yellow screen. And the third link yiels a 404 before you notice that it is aim at this very wiki page, just with a wrong address variant.

Export sounds interesting, but from where to which other environment ? From DeepaMehta (?) to where? (Maybe this is a stupid question, but due to DeepaMehta's paradigm-shifting agnostic about applications, the explanation is obviously more difficult for the non-initiated).

  • the other environment is just another visualization/skin for deepamehta's topic map, at the moment it just enables you to create your own view on a deepamehta topic map export. --Malte 18-Jan-2009 16:02 GMT
    • Ok, thanks for the agrreable explanation. x28de 18-Jan-2009 19:38 GMT

BTW, the existent "export" command is also termed in a slightly confusing way, since export usually means transferring into another environment for further processing, while saving as PDF or SVG does not suggest further processing, and saving as topicmap XML could rather be seen as backup for later restore. (Further processing in a different DeepaMehta instance, IMO, would not justify the idea of a different environment but would also be seen as restore.) Once we have not only various exports but also imports (from CSV, TXT, or clipboard), the confusion between export/ import, backup/ restore, or just "save as"/ open, might aggravate the confusion.
